COVID-19 FAQ


GENERAL FAQ

1. The Malaysian government has declared KL & Selangor is now under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP). Where can I refer to, if I have any enquiries or require assistance?

2. What can I do during the National Recovery Plan (NRP)?
Subject to prevailing government announcements and SOP, residents are encouraged to only leave the hostel for classes, food, groceries, necessities, laundry or for medical reasons. Residents are also strongly encouraged to:
  • Wear face masks at all times
  • Practice good hygiene and cleanliness
  • Use hand sanitisers
  • Maintain physical distancing, especially in common areas and shared spaces
  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • Stay indoors as much as possible
  • Seek medical attention if you experience any COVID-19 symptom(s)!
Please note:
  • The number of residents who can use common spaces and shared facilities (i.e. U Lounge and Common Kitchens) at the same time will be limited to encourage physical distancing.
  • Curfew & movement tracking will be implemented, subject to prevailing government announcements and SOP.

3. Can I visit my friend or family outside the hostel premises during the National Recovery Plan (NRP)?
Subject to prevailing government announcements and SOPs, residents are encouraged to only leave the hostel for classes, food, groceries, necessities, laundry or for medical reasons. 


4. Can I leave the hostel to go back home during the National Recovery Plan (NRP)?
The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has instructed students currently on-campus to remain on-campus and to adhere to all regulations set by the National Safety Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Health (MOH). Inter-state / inter-district travel may also require permission from the nearest police station. Residents with valid/urgent reason for leaving hostel to go home must:
  • Request permission letter from nearest police station, for residents that will be travelling inter-district / inter-state 
  • Fill in the Leave Hostel form at least 24 hours before departure
Residents who do not comply will be reported to Taylor’s University / College. Their parents will also be informed.


5. Can I leave the hostel to stay elsewhere during the National Recovery Plan (NRP)?
Subject to prevailing government announcements and SOPs, all residents must return to Taylor’s Hostel by 12am. Residents are required to register at the Security Control Room each time upon entering/exiting the hostel premises. Residents who do not comply will be reported to Taylor’s University / College. Their parents will also be informed.


6. What about food? Can I still order delivery services?
Yes, you can still order food delivery services during the National Recovery Plan (NRP). Subject to prevailing government announcements and SOPs, convenience stores and F&B outlets at Syopz Mall will be open for business. Online grocery delivery services are available.


7. What will happen to my room during the National Recovery Plan (NRP)? 
Rest assured that your room/unit is still reserved exclusively for you, until you are ready to return to Taylor’s Hostel. 


8. What are the measures being implemented by Taylor’s Hostel Management to ensure my safety and comfort during the National Recovery Plan (NRP)?

9. I am currently living outside the hostel. Can I or my friend / relative enter the hostel briefly to retrieve items from my room?
We would advise you to avoid unnecessary travel during the National Recovery Plan (NRP). Inter-state / inter-district travel may also require permission from the nearest police station. If necessary, please inform the Housemasters in advance. 


10. Am I allowed to return to the hostel if I am currently staying outside the hostel?
Residents who are facing difficulties participating in online learning or exams due to internet issues are welcome to return to the hostel.

Residents are also required to adhere to public health & safety regulations to ensure a smooth journey.


11. Can I still use the library or the gym during the National Recovery Plan (NRP)?
You may utilise the online resources accessible through the Taylor’s library website by visiting taylorslibrary.taylors.edu.my. UniGym may be closed to adhere to MCO / CMCO / RMCO regulations.
TENANCY & FINANCE
(Updated 22nd January 2021)

1. I am a new student who has paid deposit and/or 1st 6-month rental but HAS NOT checked into Taylor’s Hostel due to MCO / CMCO / RMCO and/or travel restrictions related to COVID-19.

1(a). Can I cancel my booking and get a refund?
Yes. The amount paid will be transferred to your bank account (subject to prevailing bank charges).

1(b). Can I check-in after the MCO / CMCO / RMCO / e-learning period?
Yes. Based on your new check-in date, we will make an adjustment to the amount paid.


2. I have not stayed at the hostel since the MCO / CMCO / RMCO/ e-learning period began. 

2(a). Do I still have to pay my next 6-months rental?

Yes. Your room/unit is still reserved exclusively for you, regardless of whether you are physically present or otherwise. 

Kindly ensure that payment is made on time via your preferred channels:

  • Payment options for Taylor’s University 

2(b). Is any rebate being offered?
No rebate is being offered at this time.


3. Can I check out early and get a refund?
Yes, you will be eligible for deposit refund (subject to approval) if you choose to check out early due to:
  • Medical reasons (supporting documents required)
  • COVID-19 restrictions

4. I am currently in the hostel. Can I still check out if my tenancy has ended during the MCO / CMCO / RMCO period?
Yes, you may choose to check out once your tenancy has ended. Prevailing travel requirements will apply during the MCO / CMCO / RMCOperiod. If you are an international student, you may choose to renew your tenancy on a monthly basis until you are ready to travel back overseas. 


5. I am not in the hostel but my tenancy is ending. Can I return to the hostel to check-out during the MCO / CMCO / RMCO period? 
The following options are available to you:
  • You may request for your belongings to be packed and sent to your current location (RM50 fee per box applies). Please note all courier, delivery and fees must be arranged and borne by the resident. You must send your access cards and keys to Taylor’s Hostel via postal service to complete the Check-Out process.
  • You may appoint a representative to collect your belongings and complete the Check-out process on your behalf. All belongings must be collected, and access cards and keys must be returned to avoid further penalties (subject to further MCO / CMCO / RMCO extension).
  • If you are an international student, you may choose to renew your tenancy on a monthly basis until you are able to return and collect your belongings.
